Silk Flowers...a Do or a Don't?

I am counting on all of you crafty women out there to help me out on this. Several years ago, I had silk flowers and plants all throughout my house and thought it looked great. Then, I saw a show on HGTV that said that silk flowers and fake plants were soooooo OUT of style. With a puckered lip, I removed all of my beloved plants and flowers. Now, while looking all around your houses, decorations, etc., I see silk flowers again.

Can a person, in good conscience, have silk flowers again without getting whispered about behind her back??? Please tell me your thoughts on this. I love flowers and color, but do not want to be THAT person who doesn't know when something is so out of style.

Here are some of my favorite flowers:

I'm So Excited

I woke up this morning to find that I had won an award. Well, I didn't exactly win it, I was awarded it by Meegan at What Meegan Makes. What a great way to start the day. This award is given to blogs with fewer than 200 followers that you find to be up and coming and want to help grow.

These are the Liebster Blog Rules:
1. Post about your win on your blog
2. Link back to the blogger who presented you with the award Bella's Crafty Mom
3. Copy and past the award button to your blog.
4. Present the Liebster Award to 5 blogs that have fewer than 200 followers that you think deserve to be recognized.
5. Let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.

Now it is my turn to pass this award along. Here are my picks:
1. The Ferguson's at Garage Sales R Us
2. Jill at Jillify It
3. Amy at Sugar and Spice
4. Karah at The Space Between

I want to thank Meegan for thinking of me. This is a great Monday!

Painted Upholstery Pink Chair

I know that I have been MIA all week, but I have been working hard every night on this chair. I used Kristy's tutorial here on this 25 year old green chair that I had in my craft room hidden under a black slipcover.
Look how gross it is. Dirty arms, dirty head space, dirty, dirty, dirty. Here are some more before shots.
Now, according to the tutorial, your upholstery always looks worse(if that is possible) before it looks fabulous. Here are some in-process shots.
I was a little worried, but I had faith and kept going. I believe these were after 2 coats with the latex paint and fabric medium and lots of sprayed water.

Isn't she gorgeous!!!!!
Now if you don't remember the before,

here it is with the after. I also spray painted the legs black to keep with my pink and black theme. I did 2 coats of latex and fabric medium and then 2 coats of acrylic and fabric medium, just like Kristy did on her first chair (see tutorial above). It is a little stiffer than the original fabric, but I steamed it with an iron and also used some sand paper and blow drier and I think it feels fine. The arms are a little shinier than the rest of the fabric, but I think that is because they had more wear to begin with. I would definitely recommend trying this on one of your own ugly chairs or buy one on craigslist and give it a try. I have wanted a pink chair in my room forever, but you can't find pink slipcovers anywhere. I love the way it turned out. The little foot stool was made from a 19.99 target table with foam and fabric to cover the top and then 4  $2.97 legs from Home Depot painted black. I did add a piece of MDF to the bottom because the pre-drilled holes were a little stripped from the original legs it had on it.
Well, tell me what you think.

Bella's Cheery Cherry Harness

Last night I made Bella a new harness. I used her old one as a template for the pattern. Using just some cheery cotton and some fusible interfacing with wide bias tape. I also used some blue nylon belt material and a plastic clip. This was easy to make and looks so summery on her.
Of course I had to decorate it a little with some green ribbon and red buttons.
And here she is modeling her Cheery Cherry Harness. She looks cheery doesn't she? She hates to wear anything.
