Silk Flowers...a Do or a Don't?

I am counting on all of you crafty women out there to help me out on this. Several years ago, I had silk flowers and plants all throughout my house and thought it looked great. Then, I saw a show on HGTV that said that silk flowers and fake plants were soooooo OUT of style. With a puckered lip, I removed all of my beloved plants and flowers. Now, while looking all around your houses, decorations, etc., I see silk flowers again.

Can a person, in good conscience, have silk flowers again without getting whispered about behind her back??? Please tell me your thoughts on this. I love flowers and color, but do not want to be THAT person who doesn't know when something is so out of style.

Here are some of my favorite flowers:
So to fake or not to fake, that is the question?

  1. I love fake plants....which I have to have in my home because the cat will eat a real one! I have very few fake flowers, mostly greenery and I think Pottery Barn has the best - hey, if it looks real, who cares 9and if it looks fake, toss it out!)

  2. I agree with Patti. I have silk flowers everywhere! Hydranga on the table in my entrance way, roses atop an antique chest. A large straw wreath to the side of my fireplace wall, with matching flowers in a huge basket at the other end of the family room, and philodendron leaves in baskets on a lengthwise shelf near the cathedral ceiling (No one can climb that high to water the real thing!). Get the picture? It's your home, do what YOU like!

  3. I think your flowers look lovely:) I have been following you for a while and I always think you have good taste, (maybe that person on HGTV was so out of date, lol) Just dropping in to invite you (out of date or not) to link up some of your creations to my first ever blog hop:) Hope to see you there

  4. Fake flowers are great! Especially when you have a child who is so very allergic. Even though she's grown and gone, I still have them because it's easy to throw them in the bathtub with soapy water and rinse. Watering and sunlight sometimes get forgotten here!

  5. Fake flowers are the way to go for me. Now I think some of the larger fake plants are still "out" but not the flowers.

  6. I have some fake flowers. I think the better the quality and lifelike the better when it comes to fake flowers. I'm picky - they HAVE to look real. I avoid the cheap ones. I look for ones that mimic real flowers in color and texture and I love the ones that have a felted stem - very realistic. I say go for it. I love that I bend them to whatever look I want.

  7. If fake flowers & greenery were not in style we wouldn't see them in stores everywhere! And nowdays they look more realistic than ever! I love fake flowers & greenery. I saw that same show on HGtv. I think a designer said that & it was because they can afford to buy the real thing!

  9. I say to use real when you can (special occasions) and the brilliant fakes when you can't! I LOVE the faux orchids that they have (and they are pretty decently priced at HomeGoods and Marshall's). I use these all the time especially when I am staging a home for sale. I can't be there to whater a plant or change the water for real flowers (or buy new ones), so the faux orchids are the best for me!!

I have them in my house for every day - and I love them!
